About Artusik

Founded by Singaporean ethnic music instructor, performer, and composer Shahneezar Shahnan, Artusik is a creative initiative dedicated to unlocking the rich heritage of Nusantaran music. Through a blend of education, outreach, and original music creation and performance, Artusik cultivates a deeper understanding and appreciation of Southeast Asia’s diverse musical traditions. The project serves as a vibrant platform for sharing these cultural sounds with wider audiences, both locally and globally.

Deeply inspired by the teachings of his late mentor, Mohamed Khamis Selamat, Shahneezar guides Artusik with a mission to transform how Nusantaran music is taught and experienced. The initiative embraces an inclusive, forward-thinking approach that bridges traditional practices with the evolving cultural landscape of the 21st century—reimagining the role of ethnic music in contemporary society while honoring its deep-rooted origins.

Nabillah Jalal is a musician, educator, and community champion. She is the founder of NJ Studio, a boutique music school, and a partner at Artusik, a company that seeks to unlock the rich heritage of Nusantara music through education, outreach and music creation & performance.

Beyond music, Nabillah also serves the community through roles such as serving on the Steering Committee of Mendaki's Community Leaders Forum Labs, as Language Ambassador for the Malay Language Council, and through grounds-up initiatives for causes such as migrant worker welfare.
